Abstract

The enrichment program is a differentiated learning strategy designed to optimize the potential of students who have already met or exceeded the minimum competency threshold, so that their intellectual development does not stagnate. This study aims to examine two main issues: how the learning process within the enrichment program is implemented, and what its implications are for improving student achievement in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMP Negeri 2 Jatirejo. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with four PAI teachers and one curriculum vice-principal, and analysis of Class VIII student grade documents during May to June 2025. Findings reveal that the enrichment learning process operates systematically across three stages: identification of student abilities through daily tests, midterm exams, and oral question-and-answer assessments; design and implementation of diverse methods including group learning with thematic clipping assignments, thematic-based learning, curriculum compacting, and independent study supported by a dedicated enrichment module; and periodic teacher monitoring and evaluation. The implications are highly significant and three-dimensional: in the cognitive domain, enrichment students consistently score above the minimum competency threshold and are able to answer questions in their own words without referring to textbooks; in the affective domain, there is a marked increase in activeness, self-confidence, discipline, responsibility, and social solidarity; in the psychomotor domain, presentation skills, project creativity, and communication abilities develop noticeably.
