Motivasi Orang Tua yang Bermata Pencaharian Nelayan dalam Meningkatkan Prestasi Belajar Siswa Mata Pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam Kelas X di SMK Negeri 1 Tanjung Raya

Abstract

This research is motivated by the finding that several students whose parents work as fishermen scored below the minimum passing grade (KKM) in Islamic Religious Education at SMK Negeri 1 Tanjung Raya, given that fishermen typically spend extensive time at sea, limiting their time to guide their children's learning. This study aims to identify and describe the motivation of parents working as fishermen in improving their children's learning achievement in Islamic Religious Education at the school.This is a qualitative descriptive field research, aimed at describing the phenomenon of parental motivation among fishermen without hypothesis testing. The subjects were parents of students working as fishermen and the class X Islamic Religious Education teacher. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation, with validity established through prolonged observation, persistence, source and technique triangulation, and reference materials. Data were analyzed through data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing.The results show that fishermen parents still strive to fulfill their important role in improving their children's achievement, through encouragement, support, motivation, and exemplary religious practice, despite limited time together due to fishing activities. Parental support and motivation were found to influence children's learning achievement, and the home learning environment also contributed to this outcome. It is concluded that the active role of fishermen parents through supervision, instilling religious values, and creating a conducive learning environment significantly determines children's learning success, despite time constraints from their occupation.
