Abstract

The optimal management of Human Resources (HR) serves as a crucial foundation for the quality and competitiveness of Islamic higher education institutions. This qualitative descriptive study, utilizing a case study method, examines HR governance at the College of Islamic Studies (STAI) Baturaja—covering aspects of planning, recruitment, capacity building, performance evaluation, and compensation systems for lecturers and educational staff. Through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies, the research found that (1) HR planning is formulated based on lecturer-to-student ratios and the specific needs of study programs; (2) the recruitment process upholds high transparency despite constraints in formational quotas; (3) the enhancement of lecturer competence is facilitated through advanced study programs and participation in functional training; and (4) performance appraisal refers to the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi). The implementation of this research offers a strategic framework for Islamic private higher education managers to boost HR productivity grounded in Islamic values.
