Conceptual Metaphors in the Lyrics of 'Teh Hijau' by Tulus: A Lakoff and Johnson Perspective

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze conceptual metaphors in the lyrics of the song “Teh Hijau” by Tulus based on the perspectives of George Lakoff and Mark Johnson. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using listening and note-taking techniques. The research data consist of words, phrases, and expressions in the song lyrics that contain conceptual metaphors. Data analysis is conducted by identifying metaphorical expressions, determining the source and target domains, and explaining the conceptual mappings that shape the meanings of these expressions. The findings indicate that the implementation of these roles contributes to improvements in knowledge, self-confidence, emotional control, and children's readiness to reintegrate into society. However, these changes remain at the individual level and do not yet demonstrate a comprehensive transformation of societal stigma. Supporting factors include support from the leadership and staff of the Special Development Institution for Children (LPKA), the preparedness of PKBI facilitators, and the active participation of the children under guidance. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include limited time, the need to adjust to institutional schedules, differences in children's characteristics, and the insufficient involvement of families and the wider community. Necessary efforts include strengthening coordination, increasing the frequency and continuity of programs, providing individualized assistance, involving families, educating the public, expanding partnerships in education and employment, and strengthening monitoring and evaluation focused on social acceptance.
