The Influence of Work Discipline and Motivation on Teacher Performance: An Empirical Study at SMA Negeri 1 Keumala, Pidie Regency, Indonesia

Abstract


This study aims to examine the effect of work discipline and work motivation on teacher performance at SMAN 1 Keumala, Pidie Regency, both partially and simultaneously. A quantitative survey approach was employed. The population comprised all 48 teachers at SMAN 1 Keumala, with a sample of 44 respondents selected using proportionate stratified random sampling based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS 26. The results show: (1) work discipline had a positive and significant effect on teacher performance (t = 3.847; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05); (2) work motivation had a positive and significant effect on teacher performance (t = 4.213; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05); (3) simultaneously, work discipline and motivation had a significant effect on teacher performance (F = 31.26; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), contributing 60.4% (R² = 0.604). These findings affirm the importance of strengthening work discipline through reward-punishment supervision systems and enhancing intrinsic teacher motivation to optimize teacher performance at SMAN 1 Keumala.
