The Effectiveness of Microsoft Office Training in Improving the Work Efficiency of Village Officials: A Case Study of Mantang Lama Village

Abstract

The use of information technology in village administrative activities requires adequate skills among village officials so that their tasks can be completed more quickly and efficiently. This community service activity was conducted to improve the ability of village officials to utilize digital information media, particularly Windows and Microsoft Office, to support administrative work. The community partner was the village government of Mantang Lama, Bintan Regency, represented by three participants. The activity applied a direct training method consisting of material delivery, demonstrations, hands-on practice, discussions, mentoring, and evaluation. The training covered Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint based on the participants’ administrative needs. The results showed that participants were able to understand Microsoft Word more easily, while Microsoft Excel still required further improvement, particularly in data processing and the use of basic formulas. Measurement of task completion time using Microsoft Word showed a decrease in the average completion time from 11 minutes 42.89 seconds to 5 minutes 33.67 seconds, representing an efficiency improvement of 52.53%. These findings indicate that the training contributed to improving the efficiency of village officials’ administrative work and should be continued through more detailed Excel training and ongoing assistance.
