Legal Protection of Copyright for Music Generated by Artificial Intelligence from the Perspective of Indonesian Law

Abstract


The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)—specifically generative AI—has enabled the automated creation of music, thereby raising legal issues regarding copyright. This study aims to analyze the urgency of legal regulation concerning AI-generated music and the forms of copyright protection available within the Indonesian legal system. The research employs a normative legal research method, utilizing both statutory and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate that AI cannot be recognized as an author or copyright holder because it is not a legal subject. Copyright protection can still be granted to humans, provided there is intellectual contribution and creativity involved in the creation process. Therefore, clearer and more adaptive legal regulations are required to ensure legal certainty and to balance copyright protection with the advancement of AI technology.
